Bio
Right off the bat, I'm a husband, father, and a life-long learner. I've had an affinity for the arts my whole life and never knew how to make that a career until later when I learned about the field of Industrial Design. It's a wonderful field that blends art with function and engineering. I love it. I returned to school as an adult to earn my undergrad and it was one of the most rewarding experiences I've made so far.
Prior Experience
After high school, I volunteered for a 12 month ministry experience that brought me all over the United States and I had the chance to work with college age students across the country. I did this four times, for a total of four years of experience that culminated in two of those years being the manager of sorts over our greater team (20+ volunteers). This was a lesson in servant leadership. Additionally, I volunteered with an afterschool art program where I mentored and taught various art disciplines to middle school aged kids. I have also been a volunteer at my church as well as throughout my time in college, I was able to speak direction into the younger classes as an upperclassman.
Why Mentor?
I feel that my experience earning a degree as an adult showed me where students (who aren't fully adult yet) could use so much help. It feels like there's a playbook that everyone else is using that you don't know about, and its a massive advantage, for those that want it, to have a mentor guide them through everything from decision making processes, to interview/portfolio tips, to how to lead a student group project. At the end of the day, I want to be a value add for those coming after me.
